Electric remote control cars are still the most popular choice of first-timers, and for a reason; they are simply the easiest type of car to get started with and they are cheaper than similar gas powered models. Furthmore they don't make much noise and you can drive them indoors because they aren't messy like their gas powered counterparts.

An electric remote control cars will run up to 10 minutes before it needs to be recharged, which takes about 15 minutes. You can compensate for this by having a fresh pack ready when battery power runs low.

Electric cars do have disadvantages compared to their gas powered counterparts when it comes to performance You can improve performance with an aftermarket engine or 'hop-up'

So if you're just starting out I recommend an electric rc car. As mentioned, you can always upgrade it later for better performance. A very popular choice in electric rc cars is the HPI Dash RTR Lamborghini Diablo. It is inexpensive and it is ready-to-run out of the box.

If you feel that nitro is really more 'your thing', you can do it - but you mustn't be completely turned off by the mess and maintenance of gas powered cars. With the advancements in technology and todays ready-to-run nitro rc cars, they're no longer reserved for seasoned enthusiasts.
