Much like model airplanes, rc model rocketry is a very educational hobby when you really get into it. You get to learn a lot about aeronautics, physics, chemistry etc. This might scare some away thinking ... but do I have to know a lot about these things then? ... You do need to know a lot to build a model rocket from scratch but with the kits available these days everyone can launch a big one ;o) So don't fret.
Model rockets are by some considered a hazardous hobby and in some cases it might very well be. It all depends though - as with most things. If you build your own 6 feet aluminum liquid model rocket (like in the picture below), you definitely need to be careful. But there is another and more safe way to practice your hobby and actually build a model rocket almost from scratch. There are a number of different model rockets available in stores and they vary in size, engine power, and level of expertise required to build it.
